Feeling a lump in the throat

The feeling that something is stuck in the back of your throat is called "globus". Globus does not usually cause pain, but is an uncomfortable feeling for many patients. Three categories of disease usually cause globus :
– postnasal drainage (allergies, chronic sinusitis or other)
– stomach reflux traveling to the throat (laryngeal reflux)
– anxiety
An examination by an ENT is necessary to rule out more dangerous causes such as cancer, but these usually cause pain. Your ENT will perform an endoscopic examination of your nose and yout throat and will recommend the most appropriate treatment, such as lifestyle modification, antireflux medication, or nasal sprays.
It is important to know that globus is a sensation that is difficult to eliminate completely, however, most of the time, it is not dangerous.
